My Books of 2023

Wowza!

I can’t believe that 2023 is pretty much over with! I know I am, in all actuality, on the early train here. But you know what? Spotify did its yearly wrap earlier than this so I think I’m in the clear.

I read some pretty good books this year, and some ‘meh’ ones too. I always set the goal of reading 12 books a year. The objective is to at least read one book a month, however, I do not always stick to that pacing. I sometimes go from 0 books in last two months to three books in the span of two weeks. It is really dependent on my availability, mental fortitude, and-- frankly speaking-- if I even want to read. I’m happy that I met my goal!

If I had to choose a favorite book this year, I would either say One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig or Bittersweet in the Hollow by Kate Pearsall. This would seem rather obvious because I did not post about any of the other books, save for the second book by Rachel Gillig, that I read this year. However, those books are going to stay with me for a while. The storylines were intensely vivid (redundant I know but I had to get my point across) and I loved the dynamics between the characters and their inner selves.

In a quick summary of the other books I’ve read this year. Classics always go hard. They’re classics for a reason. However, I did find the pacing of a few of them rather bland and poor. However, I do have to credit the craftsmanship, wit, and creativity of them. The other two books I read that I did not post about nor were classics were alright. One was targeted towards an age range that is a lot younger than myself so I did not enjoy it as much as I could’ve. However, that’s not to say it wasn’t good. It was perfect for its intended audience. The second ‘newer’ book I read was excellent in all of its imagery, themes, and implied meanings, however, it was not a story that stuck with me emotionally. I could not give you a proper summary anymore.

In 2024, I am planning on keeping my goal of 12 books a year. I have a few on my TBR that I want to chip away at, however, I am an avid re-reader especially if I’m in a slump. If I’m frankly honest, I’m planning on reading one on my list this month, however, the likelihood of me finishing it before January is slim so I put it on my 2024 list.

I know I started my blog rather late in the year, however, I would like to send out some gratitude and appreciation to those who have popped by to check it out. It is heartwarming to know that there are people out there who are interested in what I have to say about books! 😃
